ക്രിസ്റ്റി ജോബിൻ കണ്ണൂരിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഒരു സംരംഭകയാണ്. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ ഒരു ഗവണ്മെന്റ് കോ.ഓപ്പറേറ്റിൽ ജോലിചെയ്യുന്ന സമയത്താണ് നെയ്തുകാരുടെ കഷ്ടപ്പാടുകളെക്കുറിച്ച് അവർക്ക് മനസിലാക്കാൻ സാധിച്ചത്. വളരെ കുറഞ്ഞ ശമ്പളത്തിൽ അതായത് ദിവസവേതനം 250-300 രൂപയിലായിരുന്നു അവർ ജോലി ചെയ്തിരുന്നത്. അതിൽ വിഷമം തോന്നിയ ക്രിസ്റ്റി സ്ത്രീകളേയും നെയ്തുകാരെയും സഹായിക്കാൻ ഗവണ്മെന്റ് ജോലി ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുകയും ‘Looms and Weaves’ എന്ന ഒരു ചെറിയ സ്ഥാപനം തുടങ്ങുകയും ചെയ്തു.
പക്ഷെ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച അത്ര വരുമാനം അതിൽ നിന്നും ലഭിച്ചില്ല. ബിസിനിസ്സിൽ പരാജയം നേരിട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന സമയത്താണ് ക്രിസ്റ്റിക്ക് Amazon ഷോപ്പിംഗിന്റെ contact കിട്ടുന്നത്‌.2013ൽ 10 ഉൽപ്പന്നങ്ങൾ മാത്രം വച്ച്, ‘Looms and Weaves’ Online Business Amazon ൽ തുടങ്ങി.10 ഉൽപ്പന്നങ്ങൾ മാത്രം വച്ച് തുടങ്ങിയ Business ഇപ്പോൾ 700 ഓളം Productകൾ വിൽക്കുന്നു. ക്രിസ്റ്റിയുടെ സംരംഭത്തിലുള്ള കൈത്തറി വ്യവസായത്തിൽ 99% സ്ത്രീകളോ സ്ത്രീകൾ initiative എടുത്ത് ചെയ്യുന്നതോ ആയ ഉത്പന്നങ്ങളാണുള്ളത്.
Christy Jobin is an entrepreneur who studied and grew up in Kannur. After moving to Trivandrum, she worked as a textile designer with a government-owned Co-operative. Christy Jobin witnessed first-hand the hardships faced by the weavers. Weavers in Kerala earned meager incomes of only around 250-300 rupees per day. With an aim to support weavers and women, Christy Jobin resigned her government job and opened ‘Looms & Weaves’. It was a 250 sq. feet store in a mall. But Christy didn’t get support from anywhere, her loan didn’t get sanctioned, and she was unable to market. Beginning with a turnover of less than Rs one lakh, the sale was not as expected and this entrepreneur had to go through various struggles. During its decline, Christy Jobin found the contact of Amazon and put thought into online shopping. She came up with online business ideas and set up a successful online business.
Christy Jobin’s Looms & Weaves foray into the e-commerce, online business space began with ten products in 2013. But her online business started growing with specified demands from customers. Now, along with handloom materials and local Kerala spices, altogether Christy’s ‘Looms and Weaves’ is selling more than 700 products on Amazon online shopping. Christy Jobin ’s handlooms are woven 99% by women or are sourced from different women based initiatives and societies. Christy Jobin started her business without a single employee, now she has 10 people working directly with her and she indirectly provides employment for around 50 more. More than 50 families and 200 organic farmers across the state have benefitted from Christy’s venture.
